Palm Beach Zoo Logo Redesign

In my second graphic design class, our main focus for the semester was to redesign the logo for Palm Beach Zoo as well as create an advertisement campaign featuring three unique ads, design an app for the zoo, and create a zoo themed face paint package.

The zoo’s original logo is thin and the words could not be read from far away. I overcame that challenge by choosing a bold typeface and incorporating figure ground reversal into the design. The palm tree and flamingo are representative of the location of the zoo, West Palm Beach, FL, as well as the tropical animals that are featured at the zoo like the flamingos.

Before finishing the design in Adobe Illustrator, I drew out over twenty different thumbnails and presented them to my professor. After taking the time to examine each one, we both decided this was my best design and from there I recreated the sketch in Illustrator. The finished vector logo is presented above.

True Grain Bakery Logo

This is my earliest graphic design piece. It was also created in Adobe Illustrator and the vector image was purposed for a bakery. In my first graphic design class we were asked to come up with a company to design a logo for. I chose a bread and pastry bakery, as baking is one of my favorite hobbies. The logo is representative of the main selling point – fresh bread and the typeface I chose is more of an artistic choice representative of the homestyle feel of the company.

I chose this logo with the help of my professor from a lineup of thumbnail sketches I drew. Each element of the logo was designed in Illustrator to avoid a pixelated final logo. The wheat and bread were drawn with the pen tool and the highlight on the bread and texture was added with the brush. The wheat behind the bread contains added texture and elements such as gaussian blur, colored pencil, etc. which was added in Illustrator as well.
